WANDA VISION: MCU'S MUCH AWAITED AND SPECULATED RETURN (Spoiler Free)

WANDA VISION: Marvel came up with an extremely intriguing mini-series “WandaVision” recently after an 18-month hiatus. Fans were desperately waiting for some new content from MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) when we got WandaVision and it is unlike anything we have ever seen in the entire MCU. Created by Captain Marvel writer Jac Schaeffer, with direction from TV veteran Matt Shakman, the show is starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in lead roles.

The show is styled like a 60s white and black sitcom in the first episode. Three out of nine episodes have been aired as of now. Wanda and Vision are brought back to life after their death into an alternate reality set in the 60s, it looks like it was Wanda’s way of coping with her husband’s death. Wanda possesses an odd sort of magic and her husband is capable of flying through the walls and how they manage to live peacefully in a white fenced neighborhood by keeping their secrets tucked away.

The plot is a suburban sitcom setting, with sharp scenes. Olsen is a naturally gifted comic actor, her mannerism and gracefulness make the show a real delight to watch. Bettany, meanwhile, mostly plays his role in the mode of a bumbling Hugh Laurie. The first episode of the show even has a live audience. The neighbors provide an extra sense of comic relief.

Elizabeth Olsen said, “It was the first thing we shot. It was so nerve-wracking and there was a lot of adrenaline. There were a lot of quick changes, and it totally confused my brain. I was really grateful when we added the fourth wall for our second episode.”

There are a lot of light-hearted and pleasant scenes, some of them have humorous uses of cheesy sitcom one-liners. Even the humor and visual effects in WandaVision evoke the 50s, 60s, and 70s sitcoms. It’s a subtle parody of these sitcoms.

It is still very little to speculate exactly what’s going on, but the scenes and acting in particular, give us an idea about what’s potentially happening in the show. They were so well poised that they literally devoured their screen time. Fans are devastated that they need to wait for a whole week for new episodes. WandaVision might be our saving grace after an exhausting 2020.

WandaVision episode 1 is now streaming on Disney+ and Disney+Hotstar premium. New episodes release every Friday.
